TSKB’s 60th anniversary culminates in an international award

For the third time, TSKB is awarded as the “Sustainable Bank of the Year”

Celebrating its 60th anniversary on June 2, the Industrial Development Bank of Turkey (TSKB) has for the third time been awarded as the “Sustainable Bank of the Year” in the Eastern Europe region under the “Emerging Markets” category of 2010 Financial Times Sustainable Banking Awards.

Attracting attention and coverage by its leadership role in the financing of renewable energy and environment projects, TSKB has once again proved its awareness of its responsibility in the sustainable future of not only Turkey, but also the rest of the world by winning the award for the third time.

This year’s “2010 Financial Times Financial Banking Awards” organized for the fifth time by Financial Times and IFC (International Finance Corporation), a member of the World Bank Group, have been given to corporations demonstrating leadership through environmental and sustainability activities.

Believing that a more livable world is only possible through responsible steps taken on environmental and climate change issues, TSKB is proud to have crowned its 60th anniversary with this important and prestigious award.

Noting TSKB’s sustainability in its environmental activities, TSKB General Manager Halil Eroğlu said: “We at TSKB have always pioneered innovation in environmental projects we have implemented. We are proud of being named as the first bank in Turkey to be certified by ISO 14001 Environmental Management System Standard and offset its carbon footprint as well as the first Turkish bank to qualify for the United Nations Environment Program Finance Initiative (UNEP FI). Looking through 60 years, we recognize the ‘Sustainable Bank of the Year’ award now has been received for the third time as the most important indicator of our serious approach to the environment. We feel highly proud and happy to receive once again such a meaningful award.”

So far, TSKB has reviewed and considered over 200 renewable energy projects, providing financing for a total of 83 of them. The total installed power of the financed projects reaches 2,260 MW. The total amount provided by TSKB for those projects adds up to US$ 1.3 billion. Of the financed projects, 23 with a total installed power of 640 MW have been completed and started generating electricity. With the launch of the renewable energy projects financed by TSKB, Turkey’s greenhouse gas emissions will be decreased by 5.3 million tons.
