TSKB met METU students at the 3rd TSKB Sustainability Workshop

"The 3rd TSKB Sustainability Workshop" was held on 6 December 2014, Saturday at METU under the sponsorship of the Industrial Development Bank of Turkey (TSKB) and Escarus. Within the scope of the workshop, which was attended by a total of 53 junior and senior students from the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences and the Faculty of Engineering of METU, students worked in groups in the field of Sustainable Energy Management and discussed various perspectives of sustainability.

Industrial Development Bank of Turkey (TSKB) and its affiliate Escarus, which operates in the field of sustainability consulting, held the 3rd TSKB Sustainability Workshop with the participation of METU students within the scope of their efforts to increase awareness among future managers on sustainability. The third of the TSKB Sustainability Workshop, which has been organized under the sponsorship of the TSKB and Escarus since 2012, was held on 6 December 2014, Saturday at METU Congress and Cultural Center.

Within the scope of the workshop, which was comprised of 9 different groups and which was attended by a total of 53 junior and senior students from the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences and the Faculty of Engineering of METU, students from various disciplines had the opportunity to work on a case study in the field of Sustainable Energy Management and examine various perspectives of sustainability. The 3rd Sustainability Workshop co-organized by the Business Administration and Engineering Communities of METU was held with Ahmet Levent Yener, Faculty Member of the Department of Business Administration at METU, acting as the consultant and moderator. Within the scope of the workshop focused on the theme of Sustainable Energy Management, the groups discussed sustainability on the basis of a case study.

Çiğdem İçel: "We are working to create awareness about sustainability"

Çiğdem İçel, Executive Vice President responsible for the Treasury and Human Resources at TSKB, made a speech at the opening of the TSKB 3rd Sustainability Workshop, and stated that they were happy to bring together the business and academic circles within the scope of the private sector - university cooperation to discuss sustainability. Çiğdem İçel said: "We have been organizing the 'TSKB Sustainability Workshop', which is the first literacy program in the field of sustainability, since 2012 to create awareness among university students, who are prospective managers. At the workshops, we bring together students, academics and private sector representatives, conduct measurement studies and discuss various aspects of sustainability. Through these efforts, we intend to contribute to increasing awareness on sustainability in Turkey and take this term out of its theoretical framework and put it into practice”.

Emphasizing that they are among the leading financial institutions as a bank that has economically, environmentally and socially adopted the concept of sustainability, which has become one of the most important global agenda items today, Çiğdem İçel said: "We finance investments in renewable energy, energy and resource efficiency and environment. In parallel with the increase in environmental and social risks in the business world, we have restructured all business processes at TSKB with a perspective of sustainability since 2000s. We are the first bank in Turkey which has put sustainability on its agenda since 2000s and we are a pioneer in this field.".

Orhan Beşkök: "Our students will be the only ambassadors who will embrace the future"

Orhan Beşkök, Senior Executive Vice President responsible for Technical Services and Financial Institutions at TSKB and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Escarus, stated that it was necessary for them as TSKB to evaluate the sustainability of all processes on the basis of three aspects, which are "environmental, social and economic" aspects, in order to ensure the growth and sustainability of the industry. Orhan Beşkök said: "We know that our students will be the only ambassadors who will embrace the concept of sustainability and its sub-segments both in their private and professional life in the future. We are trying to evaluate and interpret this concept from various perspectives through the 'Sustainability Workshops' we organize”.
