The winners of the “Law Carbon Hero Awards”, an event organized by the Sustainable Production and Consumption Association (SPCA) for the first time this year, have been announced. The event recognizes companies that undertook successful projects to effectively manage carbon emissions generated during production and consumption. The TSKB has been given the Low Carbon Hero Award for its contributions to the transition to a low-carbon economy through leading practices in several fields ranging from management strategies and the measurement of environmental impact to banking products and services, and social responsibility projects.

Hakan Aygen: “We are the first carbon-neutral bank of Turkey”

Providing information on the bank's efforts at the award ceremony, Hakan Aygen, Executive Vice President of the Industrial Development Bank of Turkey (TSKB), said: "As a bank that for the last 65 years has supported manufacturers who care about the future, we have been measuring and reducing the environmental impact of our banking activities since 2005, thanks to our Sustainability Management System. The TSKB has been the first carbon-neutral bank of Turkey since 2008."

“With the investments we financed in renewable energy and energy efficiency in the last ten years, we helped reduce annual carbon emissions in Turkey by 7.2 million tons.”

Noting that they focused on carbon emissions not only within their own organization but also in their lending activities, Mr. Aygen further said: "More than half of our loans go to sustainable investments that reduce the carbon footprint of Turkish businesses. With the more than one-hundred clean energy projects we financed so far, we helped increase Turkey’s installed power capacity by 3,500 MW, which corresponds to around 14% of the country’s renewable energy capacity. We helped reduce annual carbon emissions in Turkey by 7.2 million tons, with the investments we financed in the field of energy efficiency. As a bank known for its expertise in reducing carbon emissions through financing and technical consulting services, we are proud of having received this award."
