TSKB Signs USD 200 Million Loan Agreement with the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank
TSKB signed a USD 200 million loan agreement with the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) during the 2nd TSKB Development Day and the celebration of TSKB’s 75th Anniversary. Secured under the guarantee of the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Treasury and Finance, this on-lending facility, which is also the first loan provided under AIIB’s multi year investment program signed between AIIB and the Ministry of Treasury and Finance of the Republic of Türkiye, will support private sector investments in renewable energy, energy efficiency, climate adaptation, climate industries and digital infrastructure as part of efforts to combat and adapt to climate change.
TSKB (Industrial Development Bank of Türkiye) signed a new loan agreement worth USD 200 million with AIIB (Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank). Aligned with its mission of promoting sustainable and inclusive development, TSKB will use this new facility to further contribute to Türkiye's climate mitigation and adaptation goals, particularly in relation to SDG 6, 7 and 13. This loan is a continuation of the total USD 400 million in climate-focused financing loans AIIB has lent to TSKB in 2018 and 2022. The sovereign-backed facility will be used to finance private sector investments in renewable energy, energy efficiency, climate adaptation, climate industries and digital infrastructure.
This new financing agreement with AIIB will support Türkiye in achieving the climate goals specified in its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) in line with the Paris Climate Agreement. A minimum USD 170 million portion of the facility is expected to contribute to combating climate change, while a USD 10 million portion will be channeled to climate adaptation efforts.
TSKB CEO Murat Bilgiç commented on the facility signed during the TSKB Development Day held on May 28: "We are delighted to sign this major deal on TSKB Development Day, an annual event we organized for the second time this year. Since our cooperation with AIIB began in 2018 with its first loan to the financial sector, AIIB has been one of the strongest supporters of our sustainability-focused investments. With this new agreement, we continue to support the transformation of the private sector in alignment with our medium and long-term sustainable development goals, in line with Türkiye’s 12th Development Plan and the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources’ 2024-2028 Strategic Plan. This loan, being a Program-based financing facility, sets a new precedent. On the occasion of our Bank’s 75th anniversary, we hope this agreement will benefit our country and we take pride in further advancing this trusted and strong partnership.”
“Infrastructure that is green, innovative, and resilient lies at the core of AIIB’s mission,” said Gregory Liu, Director General Financial Institutions and Fund clients, Global. “This facility builds on the success of our first loan to TSKB in 2018 and will enable continued progress in climate mitigation and adaptation. As Türkiye strengthens its climate commitments, we are proud to support this momentum through long-term financing and strategic partnerships.”
